Appstem Complete QA: A Case Study

There you are, on the home stretch, a giddy little smile spreading across your engineers. Your app is almost complete. The functionality? Gangbusters. You’ve got the next five-star best-seller on your hands, and you know it. You can’t wait to launch in the app store. The only question left is if you’re going with the black hard-top or the cherry-red convertible.

There’s just one… last… thing. QA. Quality assurance. That final hurdle between you and getting your picture in Wired and delivering a keynote address at a mildly prestigious tech conference wearing your finest turtleneck. QA. The difference between a great app and a buggy mess. If the app doesn’t work right, how does that reflect your brand?

In the midst of creating apps for our own clients from the ground up, we noticed something. A lot of other developers really wanted help getting their apps to the finish line. More than just a fresh set of eyes. A team, nay, a super team, of devs and mobile testers to come in and ensure the app looks good and preforms good. Providing a consistent experience that defines the brand. So we created Appstem Complete QA.

One of our clients Confidential CC created their own super app. Self destructing email, without a trace. A new email protocol that lets you communicate, confident your private messages remain private. In this post Edward Snowden, NSA, Egotistical Giraffe, Squeaky Dolphin world, Confidential CC is one hell of an idea. And one that needed to be on more platforms than iPhone. Enter Appstem Complete QA.

Our guys sat down with Confidential CC and reviewed their original designs. They wanted their app to be consistent, pixel-perfect across every platform. They gave us access to their internal QA system so we could log every issue in their system with their own engineers. This streamlined QA so we could immediately take screenshots of any issues and document every step in reproducing bugs.

Next we tested Confidential CC on the three most popular Android devices (the Nexus 5 and the Samsung S4 and S5, if you’re keeping score at home), as well as the iPhone 5s, 6, and 6+, and on the latest operating systems, iOS 8 and Android 4.0 — optimizing each for speed, performance, and continuity. Finally we reviewed the new build versions to make sure every issue was resolved before submitting to the App Store.

Confidential CC has a 5 star review in iTunes, and they deserve every star. Check out the iPhone and Android Apps live in iTunes and Google Play.
