Appstem Healthcare

Even before the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 virus a pandemic, healthcare was a hot topic. It’s been discussed at every Democratic candidate debate and around every family’s dining room table. It touches all of us at some point and digital technology is changing the way the entire industry works.

Digital technology is spurring a cultural transformation in healthcare. Innovations are helping doctors and health care teams make informed decisions about patient care while also empowering patients to be more involved in their treatment. The evolution of electronic medical records was a game changer allowing doctors and patients to have instant access to important information. They save time, money and, in some cases, lives.

Companies like Epic are champions in the healthcare technology space. They are by far the preferred electronic medical record system in the United States – more than 250 million patients have their current record in an Epic system. Appstem has also been on the forefront of this paradigm shift. We have deep experience creating apps that can seamlessly integrate with Epic systems. We’ve worked with major health care providers like Kaiser Permanente, Cedars Sinai Hospital, Geisinger Health System, UC Davis Department of Behavioral Health and UCSF.

The technological goals of these companies are fairly straightforward. They want easy-to-use, efficient digital platforms for their patients. And they want interoperability – the ability for a variety of information systems to work together to provide a holistic view of a patient’s health. This is particularly important because without it, departments aren’t able to talk to one another, medical histories are trapped in silos and the quality of patient care suffers.

Appstem is here to fix those real-world problems. We built the first Kaiser Permanente mobile app, with the mission to provide patients access to their medical information on the go. Patients could email their doctor, refill prescription, schedule appointments and get test results on their mobile phone. As a leader in app design and development, our team partners with leading healthcare organizations to build mobile and web platforms that integrates information from multiple data sources as well as video technology to create telemedicine apps.

With what’s happening in the world right now, being able to communicate with your doctor without going to their office or an emergency room has taken on even more importance. Telemedicine and telehealth tools, like interactive mobile apps, allow patients to get the care they need without taking unnecessary risks.

Appstem can build apps with the functionality to not only provide timely medical advice and care, but also make the process more efficient. The ability to access a patient’s entire history as well as current test results and feedback from other medical professionals gives care teams the patient’s full health care picture. This reduces medical errors, eliminates unnecessary tests and procedures and often makes patients more likely to follow their doctor’s orders.

Over the last 10 years Appstem has built a reputation of creating mission critical HIPAA compliant medical apps for our healthcare clients. We’re working with North East Medical Services (NEMS) in San Francisco on technology that assists with language translation for their largely Chinese patient base. We’ve partnered with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles to enhance their iOS and Android apps that provide patient portal information to their population. We worked with Cambia Health Solutions in Oregon to create a health and wellness mobile platform that integrates with wearable devices to track and monitor important health metrics.

Our team is watching the demand grow for digital medical technology and are ready to solve whatever the next challenge is for the industry, whether that’s telehealth, AI, home-based care – or something we haven’t seen yet.
