Appstem’s 3 Favorite Things From HIMSS 2017
We had an exciting three days in Orlando this week for the annual HIMSS national conference. The HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) Annual Conference is the largest Healthcare IT conference that brings together over 40,000 health IT professionals, clinicians, executives and vendors from around the world. It provides education, world-class speakers, cutting-edge health IT products and networking events.
This year the event was kicked off with a keynote from IBM CEO, Ginni Rometty proclaiming that the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare is well underway and she went on to discuss the importance of cloud platforms, data architecture and cognitive services in this new era.
This was our second year at HIMSS, the amount of talks, new products, and exhibitors is overwhelming. These are the top 3 favorite things we saw at the show in an effort to improve healthcare from a technology standpoint.
- There were a number of companies including Samsung, Verizon, and Microsoft demonstrating exciting new AR and VR solutions for both patients and physicians.
- EMR heavyweights like Cerner, Epic, Allscripts and Meditech were all touting the number of developers accessing their new FHIR data through open API’s.
- Mobile apps were prevalent throughout the show and the AMA, AHA and HIMSS all joined together to create a new company called Xcertia, whose main goal is to improve the quality, safety and effectiveness of mobile health applications. We will make sure to keep you updated on their progress.
All in all, it was a hectic but informative three days but well worth the jet lag incurred from flying back and forth across the country. Now time to get back to work to improve healthcare!
