Stuff We Love About Android Lollipop

Android Lollipop is here, and it’s sweeter than it sounds. Here are just a few features we love about Google’s updated mobile operating system.

Guest Mode

Probably the best way to avoid having unscrupulous friends write offensive text messages and Facebook posts because you left your phone unlocked on the table while heading to the bathroom. You should have known better. With guest mode, you don’t have to. Much like a guest profile on you laptop, Guest Mode lets another user play with your fancy mobile device, all without giving him or her access to things you would prefer to keep private, like your collection, ahem, collection of special private photos.

App Pinning

Alright, so you decide to let the kids use the phone to play a game instead of hiring a babysitter. Can’t say we don’t understand. With the new screen pinning feature, you can lock the phone into one individual app. You unlock it with a combination of entries, but this will make sure the kids continue to play with your Angry Birds app rather than your eTrade app. Smart.

Tap & Go

So you got a sweet new Nexus phone and you’re looking to port over all your old apps and data from your previous Android phone. That’s never been easy. Today, thanks to Tap & Go, however, it’s never been easier. Provided both phones are NFC enabled, you can do the whole thing right over Bluetooth. Simply put the phones together to sync ‘em up, wait for the beep, sign into your account, and begin the transfer. Then, go do something special with all that new time you have.

Smart Lock

So there you are, ready to pump up the jams on your Pandora app in your car and of course, you have to pull your phone out of your pocket and unlock it before you can proceed. With Smart Lock, you can add NFC devices you trust, so that when your phone is in range of the device, it will automatically unlock. It’s a simple feature, and those are often the best.

Flappy Clone

We love Google’s sense of humor. Known for slipping in all kinds of easter eggs in Android updates, Google continues the trend with its very own clone of Flappy Bird, the addictive mobile game was pulled offline by its creator for being too awesome. Check out this CNET article to find the game.
