Things We Love About the iPhone 6 and Apple Watch
Yesterday, Apple unveiled not one but two new iPhones, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, with screens sized at 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches, respectively. That’s compared to the 4-inch screen we’ve all come to know and love on the iPhone 5, 5C and 5S. Both iPhone 6 models will be available in stores on September 19, and as always this time of year, we can’t wait.
Things we love about the new iPhones? Let’s start with the sleek brushed aluminum backs and curved edges, surely a more comfortable fit in our hands than the sharp edges on the current model iPhones, designed to accommodate the external antenna. We still remember the iPhone 3G and its smooth, curved back, that felt so good in our hands. Kudos to Apple for revamping the design.
Hey, how about those new Retina HD screens? The 6 features a 1334×750 display, and the 6 Plus cranks it all the way up to 1920×1080. It’s like looking at the future. The HD future.
Meanwhile, on the camera front, both phones will feature video stabilization features to make up for your shaky hands. You now also have the ability to take burst photos with the front camera. Your selfies will never be the same.
Then, of course, there is the Apple Watch, Apple’s first foray into wearables. And boy, is it a beauty. Shipping in Spring 2015 and beginning at $350, the Apple Watch will likely be a boon to the entire smart watch industry, especially if competitors can match the customization options Apple introduced today. Available in three different styles with a whole slew of interchangeable bands, the Apple Watch will be a highly personal, very slick extension of your iPhone 5 or iPhone 6 (it will work with both).
Watch and the iPhone 6 will both feature Apple Pay, Apple’s new mobile payment system, which already features thousands of global partners. Just tap your phone or Watch and enjoy that latte. If you can one day upload your drivers license to your phone, your wallet will become a relic of a bygone era. George Costanza approves.
Many questions remain about the Apple Watch, though current wearable companies such as Fitbit have been put on notice. The Apple Watch will raise the bar for activity tracking, and the ability to swap out a sport band at the gym for a sleek leather band for a night on the town easily gives the new wearable a leg up on the competition.
The future is bright in Cupertino, and we especially can’t wait to see what third-party apps are developed for the Apple Watch. It’s not yet a must-have product, but that will change with expansion of NFC functionality and smart apps for both work and play. The time is coming.
